What does the character displayed at the beginning of the time record mean?

The means by which the stamp was recorded is displayed.

About local stamping (L)
" (L) " may be displayed depending on the usage status . It means that the data was stamped offline and the stamp data was temporarily stored in the PC or the stamp terminal. ("L" is an acronym for Local.)
